Gougere Puffs

These French cheese puffs are full of fresh herbs that make for a great snack!

Ingredients:

  • 8 tbsp butter

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • 1 cup flour

  • 4 eggs

  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, grated

  • 1 ½ tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

  • 1 ½ tbsp fresh dill, chopped

  • 1 tbsp fresh chives, chopped

  • 1 cup water

Directions:

  1. Make the Dough: In a saucepan, combine butter, salt, and water. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Once boiling, remove from heat and immediately stir in the flour all at once. Use a wooden spoon to beat the mixture until the flour is fully incorporated.

  2. Cook the Dough: Return the saucepan to moderate heat and continue cooking the dough, stirring constantly, until it becomes stiff and pulls away from the sides of the pan, about 3-4 minutes.

  3. Incorporate the Eggs: Remove the dough from the heat. Beat in the eggs one at a time, making sure each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the grated Gruyère cheese, parsley, dill, and chives until well combined.

  4. Shape the Gougères: Transfer the dough to a piping bag or use two spoons to drop small mounds of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  5. Bake: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake the gougères for 25-30 minutes, or until they are puffed up, golden brown, and crispy on the outside.

  6. Serve: Let the gougères cool for a few minutes before serving warm. Enjoy the cheesy, herby goodness!
