Valentines Cookie Decorating Party

A Tasty & Creative Celebration For Kids

When thinking of a fun activity to do for the kids this Valentines Day decorating sugar cookies instantly came to my mind. I’ve always had such a fun time with sugar cookies, so i figured the kids would also get creative with different cookie shapes, varieties of coloured icing & fun sprinkles to create a deliciously appealing cookie. As an Auntie being able to create some fun festive memories on any occasion is what brings me joy!

I’ve put together a how to on everything you need to plan a successful and fun filled cookie decorating party that will have kids laughing, entertained, creating, and indulging in some delicious treats!

1. Gather Your Supplies

Before the party begins, make sure you’ve got all your supplies ready to go!

  • Cookies: Sugar cookies are perfect for decorating, bake them the night before so they are ready to be decorated. I used fun shapes like different sized hearts, butterflies, flowers, teddy bears and dinosaurs, you can use whatever you like!

  • Icing: Make your own basic buttercream or buy pre made icing in red, pink, white, and purple, the classic valentine’s colours. You can also buy squeeze tubes for easy decorating!

  • Toppings: Get some valentines coloured sprinkles, edible glitter, heart-shaped candies. These will make the cookies sparkle and add even more fun!

  • Decorating Tools: I put the icing in different bowls with plastic knives for them to spread onto the cookies, you can also use piping bags with different tips for creating fun designs!

  • Plates and Aprons:: Have a plate at each setting for the kids to decorate the cookies on, keeping the mess within the plate. For an added adorable touch aprons for each kid would be cute to help keep the clothes mess free.

2. Set Up A Decorating Station

  • Create a fun, festive space with a balloon arch including cute valentines themed ones, a fun table cloth, inspiring message on each place setting, chocolate roses, heart shaped necklaces. These are some of the items I decorated with, you can use whatever you prefer to add your own touch on the party. Set up a table with all the supplies, and make sure it’s easily accessible to each decorator.

3. Plan Some Fun Activities

A cookie decorating party wouldn’t be complete without a few fun activities to keep everyone entertained:

  • Cookie Decorating Contest: If you want to add a little friendly competition to the mix, host a cookie decorating contest! Give kids a theme (like “Most Creative Cookie” or “Cutest Heart Design”), and award small prizes for the best cookies in each category.

  • Cookie Exchange: Have the kids exchange with each other the cookies that they created and decorated. It’s a sweet way to share their creative works and enjoy a variety of designs.

  • Valentine’s Day Music & Dancing: Put on some upbeat love songs, and let the kids dance and sing while they decorate. A little dance party will make the decorating process even more fun!

4. Serve Some Sweet Treats

  • No party of mine isn’t complete without a themed punch! Create a valentines coloured punch using fruit punch juice, lemonade, white cranberry juice, and sprite. Garnish with red berries and your favourite fruit, get some cups & cute straws to go with it.

5. Take Home a Sweet Surprise

  • Send the kids home with their beautifully decorated cookies as a fun party favour! Package the cookies in cute Valentine’s Day themed bags or boxes and tie them with some cute ribbon for an added touch. They’ll love having a special treat to take home and enjoy later.

6. Capture the Memories!

  • Don’t forget to take plenty of pictures during the party, kids love looking back at photos of themselves having fun, and it’s always nice to have memories to share!

Happy decorating, and may your cookies be

as sweet as the memories you create!
